A CLUB run by volunteers aiming to keep students with learning difficulties active has been called outstanding.

The Energy Club run at Chelmsford College has been given the status by charity Sport Leaders UK who set up the scheme around the country.

The group allows college students with learning disabilities aged between 16 and 22-years-old to participate in sports and games in an bid to keep them healthy.

Tracey Shorey, lead volunteer with the group in Chelmsford, said: "For us, the Energy Club not only provides our students with many health benefits but it also is an activity that they enjoy and has additional advantages of helping them to socialise with others, work in teams and follow instructions from the leader."

A plaque has been given to display at the college to commemorate the status.
