A RECORD breaking number of ladies queued outside a pub to get involved with a newly formed Womens Institute group.
On Monday, the inaugural meeting of the New City Girls at the Cricketers in Moulsham Street saw 150 women attend, ranging from a 22-year-old to a lady in aged 80.
Many ended up having to queue up around the corner with the attendance breaking the institute’s Essex record high for a first meeting.
During the evening, a talk was conducted by WI Federation advisers to the group about the work the movement does. Plus a schedule of events for 2014 was also revealed by committee members.
