ENGINEERING work due to begin at a traffic hotspot in central Chelmsford tomorrow has been delayed.
Workmen were set to start the maintenance to lay new electrical ducts and cabling at the Army and Navy Roundabout as part of a £1.6million project to add an extra lane to a junction.
The lane will run from the roundabout up along Parkway towards the neighbouring Odeon Roundabout in a bid to ease congestion.
However the work had to be called off after “other equipment” was found at the work site.
An Essex County Council spokesman said: “Following the utility providers final inspection of the site prior to the laying of ducting across Parkway, it was found that there is other utility provider equipment in the location.
“Therefore, the provider will need to review and redesign the routing of the ducting across parkway.
“The statutory diversion works starting on January 13 will still go ahead and will commence following the initial morning peak traffic period.”
During off-peak hours, one lane on Parkway leading from the roundabout to the city centre will be closed off while maintenance is carried out.
The scheduled completion date for the project is March next year.
