A MOTHER has been handed a 20 month driving disqualification after being found twice over the drink-drive limit after dropping her children off to school.

The woman from Chelmsford was stopped by police as part of their Christmas anti-drink-drive campaign last month.

A breathalyser test showed the female, who had been drinking the night before, was still double the limit when returning from the morning's school run.

Between December 1 and 31, officers breath tested 3,409 drivers across the county leading to 124 arrests.

Essex Police's casualty reduction manager Adam Pipe said following this campaign, another is likely to be launched relating to still being over the drink-drive limit hours after leaving the pub.

Mr Pipe said: "We are now submitting our data to Essex County Council road safety experts with a view to launching a publicity campaign to warn drivers about the time it takes to be fit again to drive after drinking."
