AN INDIAN restaurant chef was part of a team who whipped up 150 curries as a festive treat from Essex to peace-keeping troops in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Akmal Ali, of Waterhouse Lane, Chelmsford, prepared the masala chicken bhuna dishes at the Maharaja restaurant in Thundersley where he is the second chef.
The meals were then flown out by private jet from Southend Airport to the war-torn African country to feed United Nations soldiers.
Restaurant staff were approached by pilot Captain Mustafa Aolad, owner Imperial Air Services, who has a cousin in the UN troops out in DR Congo.
Having enjoyed a meal at the venue, he decided to deliver the dish to the soldiers and paid the restaurant £1,500 to cook the batch up.
