FIREFIGHTERS had to free a woman from a car after it was involved in a crash with a lorry carrying hay.

The accident happened on Church Road, West Hanningfield, at about 12.15pm on Monday when the truck and a white Nissan Micra collided with each other.

Crews from Chelmsford and South Woodham Ferrers fire stations were called to the scene and were able to cut free the Nissan driver just before 1.30pm.

The woman, who is in her 40s, was treated by paramedics and taken to Broomfield Hospital for treatment.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said the injuries were "not life threatening".
