GOVERNMENT funding worth £1.4million has been granted to help improve part of the Army and Navy Roundabout.
The Department for Transport announced today Essex County Council would be given the money as part of nationwide scheme to tackle congested roads.
The funding will be used as part of £2million plans to extend a slip road linking Parkway and Chelmer Road.
Work will include creating a wider footway and cyclepath and two-stage signalled toucan crossing with construction set to run from October next year to March 2015.
Transport Minister Patrick McLoughlin said: “Whether it’s unblocking bottlenecks on local roads, improving trouble spots on our motorways and trunk roads or working to deliver better railways through electrification, these projects will benefit communities up and down the country and help keep Britain moving.
“By investing in our local and regional transport infrastructure we can help support new jobs and boost our overall competitiveness in the global economic race.”
