A DISABLED tot’s parents are raising funds to buy a special buggy so they can take her for family days out with her baby brother.

Three-year-old Alyssa Gomes, developed severe epilepsy in the days after she was born.

She suffers so badly from the condition she is unable to sit without help, can’t walk or communicate and has to be fed through a tube in her stomach.

Alyssa needs a special £3,000-plus buggy when she goes out.

However, since baby brother Ethan arrived eight months ago, the family really needs a two-seater version.

Mum Lynette Dowden, 33, of Kilnshaw, Basildon, said: “At the moment when I push Alyssa to school in her buggy, I have to carry her brother, unless someone is with me, so we can use two buggies.

“At the moment we are forced to take two buggies out everywhere, which is a huge amount of packing and unpacking. It restricts what we can do and where we can go as a family.

“Also, Alyssa’s current buggy doesn’t support her properly and she wobbles around a lot.

“Having a specialist double buggy for her and Ethan would help us so much.”

The national charity Caudwell Children is working with Lynette and partner Nicholas to raise the cash they need.

Lynette added: “Alyssa is always at risk of having a seizure, so we have to be very wary as a family. We’re constantly on edge.

“It can be difficult at times. Having Ethan as well means you have to be two different parents at times.

“Alyssa, with her condition, requires so much care and attention, but at the same time, we have an eight-month-old baby who needs attention and looking after.

“It’s a struggle to find a balance at times.”
