DEVELOPERS showed off their plans for a historic hospital site in Chelmsford which they plan to turn into a housing estate.
Linden Homes held a launch party at the old St John’s Hospital base in Wood Street where they unveiled a 3D vision of what’s in store.
Thousands of babies were born at the hospital which was open from the 1920s until November 2010 when services were transferred to Broomfield Hospital.
About 175 homes are planned by Linden and Inland Homes, who have spilt the area into two, with the facades of the old buildings being kept in place.
Adrian Bohr, managing director of Linden who are building 131 homes, said it was a special feeling to be developing at the historic site especially as his son was one of the last babies born there in 2010.
Mr Bohr said: “It is a fantastic step to at where we can show off what the development will look like.
“This site has had a different level of interest here because there are so many people who have an interest as they either worked here, were born here or gave birth here.”
