Girl, 4, seriously hurt in lorry accident
7:00am Thursday 24th October 2013 in News
A YOUNG girl has been hospitalised with “life changing” injuries after being hit by a lorry on a busy road in Chelmsford on Monday afternoon.
The four-year-old was struck by the vehicle in Waterhouse Lane, near Chelmsford fire station, at about 3.30pm and suffered leg injuries.
Paramedics treated the youngster at the scene before she was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.
A spokeswoman for Essex Police confirmed the severe leg injuries the girl had suffered were “life changing but not life threatening” and she was in a stable condition in hospital.
Police were forced to close the road between the junctions of Beeches Road and Parkway for a few hours while investigations and medical treatment were carried out.
This led to severe congestion around parts of the city during the rush hour.
Tailbacks formed along Waterhouse Lane and caused disruption across nearby roads including Parkway, New London Road and the Miami Roundabout.
The road closure was lifted at about 6.50pm.
