Deputy mayor climb up Ben Nevis
7:00am Friday 11th October 2013 in News
CHELMSFORD’S deputy mayor is calling for others to get their walking boots like she is to climb Ben Nevis.
Jude Deakin has decided to scour Britain’s biggest mountain to fundraise for The J’s Hospice which is the nominated Mayor’s charity of the year.
The Lib Dem councillor for Marconi ward will be part of a guided expedition from May 2 to 4 next year going up the peak in Scotland which stands at 1,344 metres above sea level.
Ahead of the climb, Jude is looking for other people to join the fundraising group for what she believes will be an exciting way of helping a charity.
Jude said: “The busy mayoral schedule means I’m on my feet a lot at the moment but I’m looking forward to getting into a gentle training regime in preparation for May.
“I’m very excited about the trip and delighted to be doing it for The J’s. This is a fantastic opportunity to get together with a group of friends and do something different.”
Mayor of the city Trevor Miller said what his colleague is doing for the Great Baddow-based charity is great and hopes others will join her.
He said: “Jude is a great sport to have volunteered for this fantastic fundraising event.
“I hope that many of you reading this will feel inspired to put your feet into some walking boots and pick up the phone to The J’s Hospice to take up your place in the group.
“The more people who take part, the more sponsorship money we can raise for this important charity.”
To donate to Jude, visit http://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/judedeakin1 or text MAYR77 followed by the sum of money you want to give to 70070.
Alternatively, those who are interested in taking part should contact Maz Keenan at the hospice on 01245 475474 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
