Police are searching for a car driver who may know about an armed robbery in South Woodham Ferrers.

A man entered Ladbrokes betting shop in Hullbridge Road at 3.30pm on September 22 and brandished a black handgun, forcing staff to hand over a four-figure sum of cash.

On Friday, Jake Baker was arrested in Jaywick and later charged with one count of robbery relating to the offence in South Woodham Ferrers and one count of robbery relating of an offence in Jaywick the previous day.

The 20-year-old unemployed man, of Treebeard Copse in South Woodham Ferrers, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on Monday and did not enter a plea.

Moments before the robbery in South Woodham Ferrers, Baker was seen talking to the driver of a blue or silver Citroen C3 opposite the betting shop.

Investigating Officer, Dc Sharon Persad, said: "Having looked through CCTV and spoken with several witnesses, Jake is seen talking to the driver of this Citroen C3 just before he entered Ladbrokes.

"We’re keen to identify this person or the whereabouts of the car in order to eliminate them from our enquiries and obtain information.”

Baker is currently remanded in court custody prior to his appearance at Chelmsford Crown Court on December 16.

The driver or anyone who knows the Citroen driver is urged to contact investigating officers in Basildon on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
