7:20am Tuesday 1st October 2013 in News
A DERELICT pub building is to be demolished and transformed into homes and flats.
Plans were agreed by Chelmsford Council’s planning committee allowing a proposal to build six one-bedroom apartments and four two-bed houses on the site of the New Barn in Kings Road, Melbourne.
The boarded-up building which has been empty for over a year will be knocked down with each property in the new development having one car parking space.
Housing association Chelmer Housing Partnership submitted the proposal for the site and bosses from the group say they are pleased to have the chance to provide more social housing.
Development and regeneration manager Carl Hockey said: “CHP is delighted the proposed redevelopment of the New Barn public house, which has become dilapidated and run down following its closure.
“The regeneration of the site will allow CHP to develop much needed affordable housing for local residents and will feature six one-bedroom apartments and four two-bedroom homes.”
