Students raise big sum for charities
7:00am Saturday 28th September 2013 in News
TWO charities are £4,800 better off after students at Writtle College held fundraising events throughout the year.
The Students’ Union presented cheques of £2,400 to the Horse Rescue Fund and Parkinsons UK at the graduation ceremony at Chelmsford Cathedral last Friday.
Leanne Goldspink, who was graduating on Friday with a BSc (Hons) Equine Breeding and Stud Management, handed over the money which had been raised through quizzes, an annual pub crawl along Moulsham Street in Chelmsford, plant sales and themed nights.
Jackie Crook, chairman of the trustees of the Horse Rescue Fund, who was presented with the cheque, said: “We do not receive any funding or grants so for the students to do this fundraising for us is tremendous.”
The union will be raising money for Farleigh Hospice and the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Fund this academic year.
