Doctor's surgery set to close
7:20am Thursday 26th September 2013 in News
NEARLY 3,000 patients will have to find a new GP after health bosses announced a surgery will close on Monday.
Clements House Surgery, in Knight Street, South Woodham Ferrers, will shut on September 30.
NHS England’s Essex Area Team said it was due to a “pre inspection” by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which found the building did not meet required standards.
Dr Souymo Gorai’s contract had been terminated in May last year and Central Essex Community Services ran the surgery under a temporary contract.
A public consultation was held earlier this year on two options – finding a new contract to run the surgery or for patients to register with other surgeries.
Just under 90 of the 2,700 patients responded and said they felt they had a good service but wanted more flexibility for appointments and a permanent GP.
The surgery’s closure was announced on Friday. Health bosses said the news was delayed as they were exploring all possible options.
But residents found out days before following a report in a local magazine by Dr John Cormack.
Clements House will remain open until October 31 for additional administrative support and patient advice only.
Patients can register with Kingsway Surgery, The Practice and Greenwood Surgery in South Woodham Ferrers or Wyncroft Surgery in Bicknacre.
Those who need assistance can call 01245 459399.
