Call to relax double yellow line rules
7:10am Sunday 15th September 2013 in News
A BROKER in Chelmsford is asking local businesses and residents to support Government plans to relax double yellow parking restrictions.
Gardners Insurance Services, based in Coval Lane, thinks relaxing these rules could help bring back high street shops which have been affected by expensive parking and fines.
Under the plans being considered, drivers would be allowed to park on double yellow lines for 15 minutes without the risk of fines.
However, the broker warned new parking rules should only take place if it was certain it would not impact on safety.
Paul Goldsmith, managing director of Gardners insurance services, said: “Unnecessary parking enforcement can have a real impact on our high street, encouraging many to shop at large out of town business parks or online.
“Relaxing parking in a safe manner is a sure way to get more people to shop in our high street.”
People are being asked to register their support as a Like via the Keep Trade Local page at facebook.com/ccv.keeptrade local, which was launched earlier this year as part of an ongoing campaign for businesses to trade locally.
Numbers of businesses supporting this campaign will then be presented to the local authority.
