First says sorry for poor bus service
7:40am Friday 30th August 2013 in News
BUS bosses have apologised to MP Simon Burns over the poor punctuality of their services in Chelmsford.
Chiefs from First Group met the Chelmsford MP after the Conservative asked to discuss issues.
During the talks, Mr Burns was told problems had occurred due to shortages in staffing and delivery of new vehicles.
They also stated they have invested more than £5million in improved buses and have put together procedures to improve punctuality.
Mr Burns said: “First Group accept that in recent months there have been problems with punctuality due to staff shortages and the late delivery of the new vehicles which they have invested in to improve the service for passengers in the Chelmsford area.
“I was reassured they are fully on top of the situation and are determined to ensure the problems they have encountered are a thing of the past so they can move forward in ensuring a high standard of service to their passengers in the Chelmsford area.”
Charlotte Whitfield, general manager for First Mid Essex, said: “I would like to reassure our passengers that we are working very hard to bring our punctuality levels and the reliability of our buses back up to a high standard.”
