Thousands hit by power cut

PARTS of Chelmsford were plunged into darkness for almost two hours after a power cut.

Areas including Springfield suffered a loss of power shortly after 8pm last Thursday leaving thousands of properties in the city without electricity.

Engineers from UK Power Networks were called out to resolve the problem and were able to locate the source of the cut from a faulty underground cable.

Electricity supplies started being restored to Chelmsford with most back on at about 9.10pm before workmen were able to bring full power back just after 10.15pm.

A spokeswoman for the network said: “Engineers restored power after a fault on an underground cable at 8.24pm on Thursday.

“We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
