STUDENTS from Chelmsford made a visit to Belgium to see how the European Parliament works.

A group of New Hall School sixth form pupils went to the EU Parliament, in Brussels.

They were welcomed by Conservative MEP Geoffrey van Orden, who represents East of England, at the building with the politician taking time to explain the EU.

He said: “It is always enjoyable and stimulating to receive local students from home here in Brussels, and it’s important that I have the opportunity to engage with them and answer their questions.

“While many of us do not like much of what goes on in the EU and want to change it, it has to be taken seriously and understood.

“I was heartened to hear how our A-level students were engaging with these subjects and we had an interesting discussion.”
