A GLEE club made up of students from a Little Waltham-based theatre school has made it to the semi finals of a TV competition.

Figure of Eight, who go to Tomorrow’s Talent, have won through regional heats and will now appear in the BBC’s Comic Relief Does Glee Club shows.

If they win through their semi final, the club will move forward to the live final which will be aired today (March 15) on Red Nose Day.

Judging the contest are former X Factor winner Joe McEldrey, vocal coaches David and Carrie Grant and choreographer Sisco Gomez.

Gavin Wilkinson, principal at Tomorrow’s Talent, said he is really happy to see the students make it to the last 15 groups in the competition and feels they are also doing their home county proud.

He added: “After months of hard work and extra rehearsals we are thrilled to have made it to the final 15.

“We had excellent comments from the celebrity judging panel who commended our students on their professionalism, vocal ability and strong bond as a group.

“This is another example of just how great the arts scene is in Essex and how important performing arts is for young people.

“After the recent announcement of Beyonce headlining the V Festival our students are totally buzzing and we’re even thinking of asking if she needs any young backing dancers for the show.”

The performers will show their singing and dancing which has seen them progress to the BBC show at the Cramphorn Theatre, in Fairfield Road, Chelmsford, on June 15 and 16 for the school’s junior review show.

Glee clubs have risen in popularity since the American TV series Glee first aired in 2009.
