Former detectives on TV show

Ron Cook and Peter Whent
TWO former policemen gave an insight into crime scene investigation on a TV show.
Ex-Det Ch Supt Peter Whent and former Det Insp Ron Cook appeared as guests on ITV’s Alan Titchmarsh Show last Tuesday.
The duo guided Mr Titchmarsh through the scene of a mocked up crime, explaining the techniques used to gather evidence.
Mr Whent said: “People are getting much more aware about CSI because of television.
“My sense is they actually expect more of the police than the police can give them because of budget restraints.
“The perception you get from television is that they rush in and crack the case very quickly, but it’s often not like that.
“What we wanted to do was give people an idea of how CSI really works.”
Now they’re retired from the force the pair run a business that sets CSI-themed challenges for schoolchildren in Chelmsford.
