Disappointment at local unemployment rise

UNEMPLOYMENT rose in Chelmsford in January, new figures have shown.

In the Chelmsford Local Authority area unemployment rose by 163 people to 2,807, and in the Chelmsford Parliamentary constituency by 123 people to 2,069.

Chelmsford MP Simon Burns said: “I am saddened that the latest figures show the number of unemployed people locally went up in January.

“This is disappointing news for Chelmsford and my thoughts are with those families sadly affected.

“At a time when the latest figures are demonstrating that the number of people unemployed nationally is dropping, it is more vital than ever that more is done to ensure that more people get into work over the coming months.”
