POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a spate of five arson attacks on cars in the same road.
The incidents took place on the evenings of Tuesday, February 19, and Wednesday, February 20, in Thames Avenue, Chelmsford.
The first, which happened shortly before 10pm on Tuesday, saw a silver Ford Mondeo and a black VW Golf set alight. Both fires were put out with only minor damage being caused.
The second incident happened at 8.20pm on Wednesday when a green VW Golf was set alight.
The front of the car was damaged and the fire also caused damage to a VW Polo.
Arsonists also tried to set fire to a silver Ford Mondeo, but it failed to take hold. Witnesses reported two men, in black clothing, running out of the road towards the Melbourne area after the Tuesday night incident.
Police arrested an 18-year-old Chelmsford man on suspicion of arson.
