HOSPITAL radio DJs have been nominated for seven national awards for the service they provide to patients.

This year’s HBA National Radio Awards sees Hospital Radio Chelmsford, based at Broomfield Hospital, shortlisted in categories including Station of the Year.

Presenters Faye Grantham and Sam Jenkins have both been nominated in the best female category while Mark Grantham and current champion Adam Ravenscroft made it on to the best male shortlist.

Charlie Still is up for best newcomer and Owen Ward is one of the contenders for best special event for his coverage of the Olympic Torch relay broadcast live from Hylands Park last year.

Ian Smedley, chairman of the station, said it was a real honour to be so well recognised nationally.

He added: “I’m delighted our service has received so many short listings, with the Station of the Year nomination the cream on top of a fantastic list of entries.

“The HBA Awards are incredibly competitive and recognise talent right across the country, so to be shortlisted is a real achievement.

“Our volunteers worked immensely hard to put their entries together and they have done a fantastic job. I have my fingers crossed for March.”
