Students are sandwich champions!

SIXTH form students from Chelmsford have started munching into prize-winning sandwiches they made.
The sarnies, known as Beauty and the Feast, were thought up by Chelmer Valley High pupils as part of a competition run by Subway to design and market a new product.
After making the final, the team of Nathan Pine, 18, Oliver Vale, 18, Amoy McLeod, 18, Jodie Whymark, 17, Laura Steadman, 18, and Leyla Cindil, 17, where declared the winners.
Their sandwiches, consisting of two ideas with the Beauty offering a healthier option while the Feast is meatier, will be sold across the East of England during February.
Mr Pine said: “We did this as a project for our A-level business studies course and because it was part of a competition we put quite a lot of extra effort into it.
“It’s a bit weird seeing a sub you’ve helped design up there on the shop boards, but it’s a pretty good feeling to have won the competition.”
The idea for the products came after a number of brainstorming sessions which saw a number of different ideas.
Miss Whymark said: “We had a few ideas on the table and originally we were looking at a back to basics style range, such as a jam sandwich and a crisp sandwich.
“However, one of the Subway franchise owners who worked with us said we should think of something else, which is when the Beauty and the Feast idea came along.”
Miss McLeod added: “Before making the sandwich, we went out and surveyed people to see what filling they would like in a sandwich and this was the basis of what we ended up putting in.”
John Wilson, a Subway franchisee who owns four stores, said he thought the idea was great.
He added: “From our point of view, the sandwiches had to use our existing ingredients.
“We already have a large number of subs, but for the team to come up with something different like they have is fantastic.”
