Thief jailed for £500 Tesco raid

A CROOK has been jailed for six weeks after trying to steal cash from a shop, only to be tackled by van drivers.

Keith Wright, of no fixed address, was given the sentence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday one day after he attempted to take about £500 from the Tesco Express store, in Broomfield Road.

The money was grabbed by Wright at about 6am, on January 15.

An employee chased after him, but fell over, leaving him with an injury on his head which required stitches.

However, as Wright made his way out of the shop, two men jumped out of their van, parked near the store and chased the crook.

They were able to catch Wright and keep hold of him until police arrived.
