SHOPPERS are being asked to write down memories of friends and family for a charity tree at a garden centre.
Staff from Springfield Garden Centre, in Cuton Hall Lane, have set up the special tree as a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Society right up until Christmas Eve.
People who want to write down a cherished memory can do so by getting a tag from the shop and making a financial donation.
Kevin Rumsby, the centre manager, said everyone at the store was happy to be helping raise money for the charity.
He added: “Gardening can have a positive impact on physical and mental well-being and can improve the quality of life for people in all stages of dementia.
“It also provides a work out for the respiratory and cardiovascular systems and can improve strength, endurance and flexibility.
“Studies have shown that spending time in the garden can help to lower blood pressure, as well as encourage a good night’s sleep.”
Tips on buying and looking after Christmas trees will also be available at the centre.
