CHELMSFORD railway station has been re-accredited for another two years as a safe station.

As part of the Secure Stations Scheme run by the Department for Transport and British Transport Police, the station has be recognised once again as fitting the criteria set out by the Government.

The scheme looks at factors including safety, design and management practices when implementing security measures.

Andrew Goodrum, the customer service director for Greater Anglia, which runs services in and out of Chelmsford, said it was great to achieve the accreditation once again.

He added: “I would like to congratulate our team at Chelmsford station.”

Chelmsford MP Simon Burns also heaped praise on station staff for being recognised again for their safety measures.

He said: “Having retained the stipulated national standards in station, passenger and staff security, I am delighted Chelmsford station has been re-accredited under the Secure Stations Scheme for a further two years.

“This national scheme covers all rail and underground networks which are policed by the British Transport Police.

“It has established standards of good practice and credits individual stations which have worked with the British Transport Police and other local partners to implement security measures.

“I am delighted Chelmsford station is working towards a safer environment and I would like to thank all those involve for their hard work in achieving this.”
