George Clooney's marriage has sparked rumours he could have his eye on the White House.

Bookmakers William Hill have halved the odds of the Hollywood heartthrob becoming US President in his lifetime from 200/1 to 100/1.

George, who has just tied the knot with British human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, is apparently planning to launch his political career and odds of him joining the 2016 Presidential race have been set at just 20/1.

The 53-year-old actor and director has always expressed a strong political interest and rallied for current president Barack Obama in the 2012 election. He is a fierce human rights campaigner and was once arrested outside the Sudanese Embassy after a planned protest over Darfur.

George is rumoured to have turned down several long-term film projects to free himself up for his new goal.

In his 2011 film The Ides Of March, which he co-wrote, directed and starred in, he plays a presidential candidate running for office.

But asked at the time if he was interested in getting into politics for real, he said: "Is there anything tempting about [politics] if you were to look at it right now? Is there anything that would be tempting about it? Not for me."

William Hill have taken bets on other celebrity names to run for President, including Will Smith at 250/1, and Lady Gaga and Tiger Woods both at 500/1.
