Midsomer Murders star Gwilym Lee has recalled a bizarre superfan encounter while filming the hit murder mystery show.
Gwilym plays DS Charlie Nelson, the latest sidekick to Neil Dudgeon’s DCI Barnaby in the long-running ITV crime drama, which is filmed in picturesque villages around the south of England.
Gwilym was asked by the TV Times about his most unusual fan experience.
He revealed: “Neil and I were filming in a typical chocolate-box English village in Oxfordshire last summer when some Midsomer tourists turned up, including two German guys who asked to have their photo taken with us.
“We obliged, at which point they unzipped their jackets, revealing matching T-shirts with Neil’s face printed on them.
“That was an odd and very funny day.”
The Welsh actor also revealed he will be performing some magic tricks in the new series.
He explained: “The plot of next week’s episode involves a famous illusionist. It sparks memories for Charlie of his childhood aspirations to be a magician and he goes back to his old books to brush up on some tricks.
“I had to learn a couple with the assistance of a professional magician.
“My nieces and nephews are suitably impressed by my new skills. The fact they’re all under six helps, as my magic isn’t quite up to David Blaine’s standard. It’s not even up to the standard of Tommy Cooper, to be honest!”
