Mean Girls star Rachel McAdams has said her famous character Regina George would probably team up with US presidential candidate Donald Trump.

The actress, who starred opposite Lindsay Lohan in the 2004 film, said the queen bee could probably get Trump quaking in his boots.

She told the Press Association: “She probably could. I don’t know what she would say to him but they would probably team up.”

Rachel has already said it would be exciting to reunite with the film’s writer Tina Fey and cast members Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert.

She added: “It’s still out there. I recently found out there is a Mean Girls day now, October 3, which is interesting.

“It’s amazing that these things have such legs. Tina Fey is a genius and it lives on.”

Rachel will next be seen on the big screen as Dr Christine Palmer in Marvel film Doctor Strange opposite Benedict Cumberbatch.

However, she said delving into the comic book world was a new experience after star turns in Oscar-winning film Spotlight and cult romance The Notebook.

She said: “I didn’t know of Doctor Strange when I started this process so I really had to educate myself.

“Fortunately I was playing an amalgamation of characters so there is more liberty you can take, and that is why I’m so happy for Benedict because he just nailed this beloved character when there is so much pressure to get it right.”

Playing a human doctor meant she got to keep her feet on the ground, which came with advantages, according to the Canadian star.

“I was a little jealous of the cloak of levitation but it was nice to be comfortable in scrubs and running shoes.

“When Benedict was hanging from wires with a cloak on and crazy jewellery and swearing buckets I was thinking ‘I’m just a doctor’, they are their own kind of superhero.”

Rachel is not even sure if she will be back for another instalment, although most Marvel roles end up as recurring characters.

She said: “I’m pretty in the dark. I think Benedict is the only one who knows what the next step is, which make sense since he’s Doctor Strange. We will see how the rest unfolds.”

The actress has also played the part of Irene Adler in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes films, which star Robert Downey Jr in the title role.

Benedict shot to fame playing Sherlock in the BBC’s modern-day TV version but Rachel said the duo never swapped notes about their different productions.

She said: “It never came up but they have both created such different Sherlocks. That is what is so extraordinary. How many Sherlocks have there been? But him and Robert Downey have created these brand new fresh takes.”

Doctor Strange is in cinemas now.
