Kirstie Allsopp has admitted she has a massive chip on her shoulder because herself and Phil Spencer have never been nominated for a Bafta award for their hit TV show Location, Location, Location.

The property experts, whose new show Love It Or List It is due to start on Channel 4 tonight, have been helping people get on the housing ladder since the hit show first began 15 years ago.

Kirstie said: “We have won one or two Scottish Baftas but we’ve never been nominated for a UK-wide Bafta and to say I am chippy about it, is an understatement. I am SUPER chippy about it.

“We created the genre, Phil and I made the pilot for Location, Location, Location, we developed it with [the production company] and we have gone on, and I am super chippy about the lack of a Bafta.”

But her easy-going pal Phil said: “I don’t think any show that has been on for 15 years is ever going to get nominated for Bafta. It’s not going to happen!

“I think we’ve been very lucky because everybody has to live somewhere and so it’s a topic that everybody is interested in, whether they haven’t bought but would like to, or they know someone who is, or their children are, or they’re downsizing or whatever it is.”

New show Love It Or List It sees the duo go head-to-head as Kirstie persuades home owners to remodel their homes rather than go through the hassle of moving, while Phil tries to find them a new property to buy instead.

Kirstie revealed: “I moved quite a lot as a child and I hate moving house, so I will do anything to avoid it. So I was coming from quite a deep place in my desire to prevent people moving house.

“Channel 4 bought the format from America. There was never any decision over who would do what, it was always going to be me doing the revamping of the houses and Phil doing the hunting.”

Phil added: “I think we were playing to our strengths. I’m not very good at interiors and Kirstie loves knocking down walls, so it was all happy.”

Kirstie And Phil’s Love It Or List It is on Channel 4 on Tuesdays at 8pm.
