IF you’re finding it hard to get out of the house, or even out of bed, after all your Christmas food and drink, here’s an incentive.

Tuesday’s, December 27, edition of the Echo, the first to appear after the Christmas holiday, offers the traditional Walk Off the Turkey Christmas walk. It gives readers the chance to blow away the fug with a bit of gentle exercise in the open air.

This year, by way of special motivation, I am offering an extra motivation – free drinks for the first six pairs of walkers to complete the route.

It’s a round walk in more ways than one, as staff at the historic Punch Bowl inn, in Paglesham Church End, are waiting to pour the drinks for these early birds.

The walk could turn into a race, so there is good reason to be out of bed and out of the door before everyone else. To qualify, you need to be armed with a copy of Tuesday’s Echo, including the article featuring the walk, along with a map and directions. The article will also feature three photographs, taken at sites along the route. Identify these sights and photograph them yourself with a mobile phone or digital camera. On arrival at the Punch Bowl, show the photos to the bar staff to prove you have walked the complete route.

After that, the drinks – or at least the first dozen – are on me. Good walking.
