LAST week, it was the Colchester Arts Centre – this week it is a very different gig for four-piece band Surfquake.
The surf guitar outfit will be providing musical entertainment for a burlesque evening.
Run by Colchester’s professional burlesque dancer, Fifi D’Amour, it will be bringing one of the country’s most popular forms of entertainment to a wider audience.
Fifi has performed in various venues in London, including Raymond’s Review Bar as a showgirl, and has toured Europe for two years in showgirl, cabaret and burlesque-style shows.
She said: “My aim is to introduce the art of burlesque, which is happening all across the UK at present, but is sadly lacking in our area.
“I hope this will be the first of many such nights, and soon burlesque will be known as a theatrical, showgirl, fun and often comical form of entertainment for all people of all ages.
“It’s certainly not the same as striptease. The emphasis is on teasing, cheekiness, humour, and stylish performances.”
Raising money for St Helena Hospice, the girls performing on the night will be Fifi’s students, plus guest performers, such as Scarlet Fever from Channel 4 show Faking It, and, of course, Surfquake.
l The Femmes Fatales – A Night of Retro and Neo Burlesque – takes place at the Riverlodge, Colchester, tomorrow from 8pm to 11pm. Tickets are £7. Call 07947 274793.
