Firm which helps students set to expand its services

More than 200,000 people are currently unemployed in the south east.

More than a quarter of these (56,000) are aged between 18 and 24 years, according to new unemployment figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) yesterday.

More than one in ten young people is currently unemployed in the south east.

Alasdair Downes, executive director at The Reed NCFE Partnership, which works with colleges and universities to help students into work, said: “Since September 2013, we have been working with South Essex College and local employers to support young people from learning into work.

“By offering support on CV writing, job search and interview techniques, as well as ensuring they demonstrate the right mindset, we have been able to help over 300 people into employment.

“This week’s unemployment figures underline how important it is that young people have the right skills to enter the job market.

“It is our role to develop these skills and to connect learners with the 75 per cent of jobs that are not advertised.”

From September 2014, Reed NCFE will be expanding its services to South Essex College’s new Thurrock campus.

Representatives will be available to answer your questions and help with your job search at a Celebration Day to recognise the launch of the new campus on Saturday, from noon until 4pm.
