STRUGGLING to keep to your new year resolutions or lacking the motivation to even get started?
Then we have just the challenge for you.
To give your new-you intentions a helping hand, the Echo has teamed up with Club Kingswood, NHS South West Essex and the Eastgate shopping centre, in Basildon, to launch a six-week lifestyle challenge called Help Your Health.
This is the third year of the competition, but this time round there is a twist – we are looking for couples to battle it out together to achieve their lifestyle goals.
The winning couple will receive a £1,000 spending spree, with the help of a personal shopper at Debenhams, Basildon, as well as a year’s membership for two at Club Kingswood.
Staff from the health club will be in the Eastgate centre offering advice to those wanting to get fitter in 2010, as well as the chance to enter our competition.
Entry forms will also be printed in the Echo over the coming weeks.
Also on the stand, which will be manned from 10am to 4pm, will be staff from Vitality, the health promotion group provided by NHS South West Essex Community Services.
They will be on hand to offer health tips and advice, particularly for those trying to quit smoking, and will be available alongside Club Kingswood staff until Sunday in the concourse of the centre, outside the Debenhams store.
The closing date for entries to the competition is February 15, after which eight couples will be invited to Club Kingswood to face an interview panel.
From those eight, the four couples who show the most commitment and enthusiasm will be selected to take part in the six-week challenge to undergo a lifestyle makeover, at the club in Sparrows Herne, Basildon.
Each will work with gym trainer Heather Sansom to develop an exercise and eating programme tailored to their personal goals, over six weeks.
After three weeks the contenders will be assessed on their achievements and a points system will eliminate one couple each week until the eventual winners are declared in week six.
The couples’ progress throughout will be tracked by the Echo.
